Research and Evaluation

Understanding the user experience is at the heart of all programmes for change. Without data on what the user experience has been, action for change risks being irrelevant to users real needs. Once change has taken place and the money is being spent, how do you evaluate success and a return on that investment?

M-A-C Aims and Approach
To enable managers in public and private bodies to develop cost-effective and informative ways of researching and evaluating the user experience and actions related to that user experience. We can advise on policies and practice that will:

M-A-C Practice
We have posted on our website much of the research work that we have done.

The two reports featured below are examples of action research done quickly to meet a policy need to understand the progress and achievements of pilot initiatives. We turned these reports around in under 8 weeks from commissioning to delivery. The first link summarises the full report of the patient forum research

The ICAS report uses the M-A-C framework for evaluating customer contact and complaint handling departments and applies to the fledging ICAS network. The ICAS Pilots: Benchmarking and Learning (Adobe PDF)

Other examples of our work in gathering facts and drawing conclusions can be seen in "A Framework for Evaluating Patient Participation Groups in Wandsworth Primary Care Practices" where Andrew Craig has created a framework for evaluating participation initiatives.

An example of a discussion based on data gathered for a benchmarking survey, Colin Adamson wrote an article about new developments in BBC complaint handling which can be found on our blog www.publicinvolvement.org.uk
