Patient & public involvement development and training

The M-A-C Partnership has been training patient and user representatives for the past 5 years and was a pioneer in the field working in partnership with the National Consumer Council. Our training programmes covers the different needs of PPI manager as well as patient representative.

M-A-C Aims and Approach
To enable user representatives and those who manage and support them in their efforts to develop a coherent and effective approach to their work by helping them:

M-A-C Menu
We offer a range of courses designed around learning objectives and the audience. In this area these are all tailormade and highly participative. We offer advice on including all groups in the community. Training can have a strong bearing on success in the areas both of recruitment and retention. Training is an incentive to become a patient representative since it offers a prospect of empowerment and good training fosters confidence in self and in the team as well as helping in the development of goals and objectives.

Patient and Public Participation in the Health Service
This course aims to help newly recruited members of the public understand their role and contribution to the Health Service as a public / patient representative.

PPI Support Organisations
We train on the whole PPI agenda, specifically around governance, guidance and the legislation as well as NHS structure, decision making and funding.

Project Implementation and Costs
Our training contracts cover three phases - preparation, delivery and evaluation/check back. We generally recommend two trainers for any group over 8 people.

The trainers are all M-A-C partners. Training costs depend on the topic, numbers to be trained and the length of the course.

Fees start at £2400 excluding VAT for one M-A-C partner and covers a full report and evaluation of the training event.
